- Seismicity Maps
-
Earthquakes on the seismicity maps
are drawn from the
ANSS composite catalog.
For California and Nevada, contributing networks
include USGS Menlo Park/UC Berkeley, USGS Pasadena/Caltech,
and UN Reno. The events plotted represent earthquakes
of M1.8 and higher from 1970-2003. Events with magnitude
less than 5 are plotted as points; events with magnitude
greater than 5 are plotted as open squares.
- Moment Tensor Maps
-
The moment tensor maps
illustrate the
beach balls which indicate the style of faulting. Solutions
plotted are derived from the
Harvard Centroid
Moment Tensor project and from the UC Berkeley
Regional Moment Tensor catalog.
The different colors indicate different types of fault mechansisms.
Animations illustrating fault
movement are available at the IRIS Web site.
- Historical Earthquake Maps
-
The historical earthquake maps are generated
from the catalog
compiled by Bill Ellsworth, with more recent events added. The color
of the event indicates the century of its occurence.
- Under Development
-
-
We are currently working on the following improvments:
- Links to special event pages
- Maps including seismic stations
- Consistency with the recenteqs maps scaling
